Snow Day

The East Coast is being hit by another nor'easter named Pax. The snow started last night and snowed continuously until a little while ago. The storm isn't over it is just taking a breather and so are we. Neighbors ventured out to clear pathways. We started cleaning off cars and decks while we wait for the resumption of the storm. The weathermen are telling us that we've gotten 14 inches so far. And oh goodie they just reported we should be getting another 3-6 inches tonight.  I wonder what Dr Tierney has up his sleeve for tomorrow's delayed opening school closing.

Here is what it looked like out my backdoor for part 1 of Pax. The square that is being buried by the snow is my AC unit.

Mother Nature, Your Boys are Misbehaving Again!

Last week New Jersey was in the grip of the polar vortex. Yesterday the temperature spiked to 50 for the Superbowl. Today we're back under freezing and the snow is steadily coming down. Clearly Misters Heat Miser & Cold Miser are at it again. Mrs Claus, can you get on the horn to Mother Nature and help us out?

Epic Snow & Ice Storm NOT, just another NJ snow storm

The trees got the worst of this storm.

This past week, the news was all a buzz about the snow and ice storm crossing the country. Dire forecasts scared the bejesus out of most of us on the east coast. A snow storm is one thing, but an ice storm is quiet another animal. Reports coming from the Midwest on conditions there only heightened our concern. The parking lot at the supermarket earlier this week was packed. Long lines at the checkout counter and empty shelves were the norm.

In northern NJ, the storm started Monday night with snow into Tuesday morning. Undeterred, I ventured out early in the morning to clear my patio of the couple inches of ice had accumulated in advance of the ice portion of the storm. While I was at it, I cleaned the car & topped off the gas tank in case of the pending ice brought down power. Luckily I didn’t lose power as the ice never really accumulated. For all the doom, gloom and dire warnings of the weather people the storm in my area, was pretty lame. Even so, I along with most of my neighbors was housebound for the better part of two days. In order to keep from going stir crazy I scrubbed the bathroom down (is there another room that’s more yucky to clean?), sorted my paperwork for 2010 (my accountant will be thrilled) and sent valentines to friends. Ever since my friend Gen introduced me to Send Out Cards, I’ve been having fun sending cards for all kinds of events that I never would have before.

While the storm didn’t live up to the hype in my area, it was a productive for me. Even so, I’ve very happy to be able to get out and about again. I’m off to breakfast with a friend, have a great day!

Snow Daze

In NJ, we are in day 2 of the snow in. So far there is over a foot of snow outside my home and it’s still coming down. I live in a townhome community with a strange parking lot/garage setup. Plowing our development requires not only the standard plows, but Mr. Dumptruck & Mr. Bulldozer to get our cars out of the development. It’s been several hours since I’ve heard any of the 3 attempting to remove any snow. My dad who lives up the hill a couple miles away in a senior community says he’s plow guys have given up for the duration. So here I am tucked into bed in my jammies watching the Women’s Olympic Curling Bronze Medal game. I am a Winter Olympics junkie and have been totally enjoying the 2010 Vancouver Games. Being snowed in with the Olympics has been wonderful. Even still, I am starting to get a little stir crazy. Luckily I’ve got a couple of magazines piled next to me. Both have articles on de-cluttering, a task I have been putting off for far to long. I see an afternoon of shredding paper & filling garbage bags full of unneeded and unwanted stuff. As a reward, there is that Toll House cookie dough in the fridge…
